Codes and Conventions Of Pop Music

Image
Over the years, pop music has dominated the younger audience market for music, the reason that this is the case is because the upbeat and fast tempo music appeals to the younger people. Another reason behind pop music bang so dominant on the music industry is because of how often it appears in mainstream television entertainments such as the X Factor and Britain's Got Talent. For the majority of the contestants on these talent shows, they will be performing to pop related songs. The first convention of pop music videos is the use of lighting. Laura Mulvey's Male Gaze Theory

Laura Mulvey was born born on the 15th August 1941 in Oxford and studied History at St. Hilda's, Oxford University. During the 1970's, Laura's status rose as a film theorist. Soon after (1974-82), Laura Mulvey co-wrote and co-directed six projects with Peter Wollen, her husband. At this moment in time, she's working at Birkbeck university of London in the film, media and cultural studies department. The reason that hybrid music videos have become so popular is because they provide a variety of elements within the video. The reason that I picked this music video is because of it's combination of narrative and performance. Firstly, the lyrics say 'Here's the thing, we started off friends', a picture of Kelly holding the friendship bracelet appears on the screen. This is an example of narrative within the video because a story is forming along with the lyrics. The next thing that I am discuss is how the hybrid is formed. As the narrative video goes on throughout the video...
