Laura Mulvey's Male Gaze Theory

Laura Mulvey was born born on the 15th August 1941 in Oxford and studied History at St. Hilda's, Oxford University. During the 1970's, Laura's status rose as a film theorist. Soon after (1974-82), Laura Mulvey co-wrote and co-directed six projects with Peter Wollen, her husband. At this moment in time, she's working at Birkbeck university of London in the film, media and cultural studies department.

Laura Mulvey was also the creator of 'The Male Gaze Theory' , which was taken from her article 'Visual Pleasures and Narrative Cinema'. During this time period, The Big Six were dominating the film industry, so Laura Mulvey's theory was aimed mainly at Hollywood films. Laura's theory was that film is now dominated by the heterosexual mindset, as well as believing that women have become sexual objects in film.

Here is an example of a music video which supports Laura Mulvey's male gaze theory:

Some may also argue that Laura Mulvey's male gaze theory is now outdated, as it was made back  in 1975. Nowadays, the female gaze is now becoming a lot more prominent, where men are now being objectified. For example, Hozier's take me to church is objectifying males.
