Equipment checklist

Image
To film our music video successfully, organisation is paramount. To make sure that me and my partner can film our music video in the most smooth, organised way, I have created an equipment checklist in order to show everything that we will be using throughout our music video. 1) Nikon Camera 2) Tripod 3) Mobile Phone, could act as back up camera etc 4)Torch- For extra light as we will most likely be filming in the dark 5) Rucksack or duffel bag to carry camera/tripod 6) Camera lens cap- prevents lens from being scratched 7) Camera case 8) Storyboard- enables us to follow the plan and be assertive when filming 9)Bring pen and paper to take notes on any adjustments that we have had to make while filming. Costumes For Our Music Video

Image
For our music video, I believe that the most appropriate clothing would be to wear clothing that would not attract too much attention. The reason that I believe this would be most suitable for this song is because in the lyrics, Coolio talks about walking through dark streets and trying to lay low, so I feel that we should wear that style of clothing as well. For the upper body, the most appropriate style of clothing would be a dark coloured hoodie. In my opinion, a hoodie is essential, because it has been a very common piece of clothing throughout hip hop music videos. In my opinion, bright shirts and jumpers would not work with the nature of the song. Gif source:  https://giphy.com/gifs/transparent-3IXtTXDAKXqbC In terms of the lower body, the clothing will be just as subtle as the upper body. A simple pair of dark joggers and black shoes would work perfectly in this video, as it can create a silhouette effect if we are filming in the dark and walking through small, overs...

Filming Locations For Gangsta's Paradise

Image
For our Gansgta's Paradise music video, I think that the locations that I could use are relatively local. In my opinion, small and well hidden areas work best to accompany the lyrics of this song simply because it is a very solemn song with a lot of meanings behind the lyrics. Often, you will find that the lyrics being used in this song are talking about death and crime, so we also need naturally dark area, maybe just using lamppost for a source of lighting. As you can see from this entry, there are trees and bushes overshadowing it, so it would provide a good level of darkness for us. Although, because it will be very dark if we film at night, we would need some form of natural lighting. Overall, this location could be very convenient for filming some parts of our music video, because it is on my road, and my partner lives a 15 minute walk away from this location. The lyrics 'On my knees in the night, sayin' prayers in the street light' would be perfect to match...

Lighting For Gangsta's Paradise Music Videos

Image
When filming for music our music video to accompany the song Gangsta's Paradise, I believe that the lighting will be very dark. The reason behind the dark lighting is because of the solemn lyrics that are used throughout this track. Throughout my research of the lyrics for this song, I have picked out a few particularly dark and deep lyrics that will require us to use a lot of darkness in our music video. Here are a few examples of these lyrics- ' As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I take a look at my life and realize there's nothin' left ' These lyrics are making an assumption that Coolio is going through a time in his life where he is on the path towards death, and that when he evaluates his life, he has nothing. ' As they croak, I see myself in the pistol smoke ' These lyrics consist of Coolio talking about his previous experiences, he even hints that he has killed people. 'Fool, death ain't nothin' but a ...

In order to produce a music video which involves Coolio's song 'Gangsta's Paradise', I must first gain permission to use this song. This can be achieved through emailing the record company of this song, Tommy Boy Entertainment. Here is a screenshot that I have taken to give proof that I did email Tommy Boy Entertainment in order to get permission to use one of their songs.

Hip Hop Music Videos Gratification Of Audience

Image
Often, you will find that hip hop music videos will gratify their audience by showing off their wealth towards the audience. For example, the artist may show close ups of their jewellery, watches and money. Gif- ( https://giphy.com/gifs/lil-wayne-make-it-rain-fat-joe-3oEduOTjNSixSN7D8s ) The reason that this gratifies the audience is because the flashy, materialistic aspects of these videos are what the audience wants to see. In addition to this, the hip music videos often make the audience feel part of the group or 'gang'. For example, in 50 Cent's 'In Da Club' music video, there are a lot of scenes with 50 Cent partying with his friends, this sets the scene for the audience and makes them feel involved with 50 Cent, as they feel as though they are actually part of the party.
